City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments,#5)

Summary:
"The New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments continues—and so do the thrills and danger for Jace, Clary, and Simon.
What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?
Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series."
I have a very interesting relationship with this series. After reading other bloggers comments about how they preferred this series as a trilogy, I now can say I totally agree. You see, as I began reading City of Lost Souls.. I was intrigued and then somewhere when Clary decided to go off with Jace, I started hearing all the negative things I heard about this series and realizing... they were right! However. there was still some interesting plot lines I wanted to follow. I was interested for a little while longer until at some point it hit me... I no longer cared about the characters. Seriously. Clare could have killed EVERYONE off and I would have been okay with it. So, with that being said. I think I am done with this series and will heed other bloggers previous advice and enjoy The Mortal Instruments as a Trilogy, but I will start to read the Infernal Devices series.

City of Fallen Angels (Book 4)

Summary:
"The Mortal War is over, and sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She's training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And - most importantly of all - she can finally call Jace her boyfriend.
But nothing comes without a price.
Someone is murdering Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine's Circle, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second bloody war. Clary's best friend, Simon, can't help her. His mother just found out that he's a vampire and now he's homeless. Everywhere he turns, someone wants him on their side - along with the power of the curse that's wrecking his life. And they're willing to do anything to get what they want. At the same time he's dating two beautiful, dangerous girls - neither of whom knows about the other one.
When Jace begins to pull away from Clary without explaining why, she is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: She herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.
Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. The stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels."

As I began reading City of Fallen Angels, I was pretty stoked. I was enjoying the writing, the characters developing.. Clary and Simon less annoying and Jace and Clary's love stronger. Unfortunately, the more I kept reading, the book kept losing its steam. A lot of great ideas and story lines, just not executed well enough. I felt like everything just happened too easily and was slapped together. Half of me is interested in where they are going now with the series, but half of me can see why people liked it as just a trilogy.

City of Glass (Book 3)

Summary:
"To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters - never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City - whatever the cost?
Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Timesbestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments"

WOW! Talk about a lot of information and action. I liked City of Ashes but I loved City of Glass! The resolution between Jace and Clary's situation was great to finally have and although you knew if there was going to be that plot line, that there would be that kind of solution. You just didn't know how and I kind of liked how Clare wrote it and brought that plot into the book.  Also, Simon's role in the book finally really made a lot of sense to me and he was no longer that annoying tag along character, that I secretly wished would be killed off. I was pretty impressed with the whole book and cannot wait to read more! I know this review is short, but I don't have A LOT to critique about the book, I just simply enjoyed it.
