Top Ten Tuesday: Beginnings and Endings

Hosted By The Broke and The Bookish

Ahh! This Topic seems, so easy but yet it is SO hard and really cannot be limited to just 10.

1. What Remains By Carole Radziwill

"Three weeks before my husband died a young couple smashed their plane into the Atlantic Ocean, off the Massachusetts shoreline, well after the mid-July sun had set. It was reported in the news as 9:41, but  I knew the general time, because I had spoken to the women less than an hour before. The pilot was my husband's cousin, John Kennedy. His wife, Carolyn Bessette, was my closest friend. She was sitting behind him next to the only other passenger, her sister, Lauren. A still, hot summer day had melted into a warm and sticky night. A quiet night, unremarkable except for the fog, which rolls in and out of New England like a deep sigh."

2. Someday My Prince Will Come By Jerramy Fine

"I was very young, but I was drawn to my destiny as if by a magnet.
Lying on my bedroom floor and propped up on my elbows, I studied every word in that precious library book. The font was tiny and the pages themselves were almost half the size of my six-year old self, but my future depended on this so I had to stay focused."

3. Paper Towns By John Green

"The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle. Like, I will probably never be struck by lightening, or win a Nobel Prize, or become the dictator of a small nation in the Pacific Islands, or contract terminal ear cancer, or spontaneously combust. But if you consider all the unlikely things together, at least one of them will probably happen to each of us. I could have seen it rain frogs. I could have stepped foot on Mars. I could have been eaten by a whale. I could have married the Queen of England or survived months at sea. But my miracle was different. My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivisions in all of Florida, I ended up living next door to Margo Roth Spiegelman."

4. Twilight By Stephenie Meyer

"I'd never given much thought to how I would die - though I'd had reason enough in the last few months - but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this."

5. The Book Thief By Markus Zusak

" First the colors.
Then the humans.
That's usually how I see things.
Or at least, how I try.
***HERE IS A SMALL FACT***
You are going to die.
I am in a truthfulness attempting to be cheerful about this whole topic, though most people find themselves hindered in believing me, no matter my protestations. Please, trust me. I most definitely cane cheerful. I can be amiable. Agreeable. Affable. And that's only the A's. Just don't ask me to be nice. Nice has nothing to do with me.
***REACTION TO THE AFOREMENTIONED FACT***
Does this worry you?
I urge you - don't be afraid.
I'm nothing if not fair."

I won't  quote any of the endings, as to not ruin it for those who have not read these books yet.

6. Where She Went By Gayle Forman
7. Eat, Pray, Love By Elizabeth Gilbert
8. The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald
9. The Fault In Our Stars By John Green
10. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows by J.K.Rowling

Woohoo! A Royal Birth!

As many of you probably know... I am a huge fan of the royal family and of The Duchess of Cambridge...

I was pretty stoked back in December when we learned that she was pregnant and I immediately made my predictions.

Now all that waiting is over (sort of) and the Royal Baby is HERE!

I was correct in my prediction that the baby would be born in late July. However, I was wrong, when it came to the babies gender! I thought for sure it was going to be a girl, it even seemed that popular opinion would agree with me on that. However. the Duke and Duchess welcomed a Baby Boy at 4:24pm (their time) and we are now just waiting on all the other important details. Like, the name...

I really hope we do not have to wait long on the baby name, as I imagine they had some already picked out, beforehand. As I have said before I hope they do pick one name that is "traditional" although not crazy, just not a typically royal name. I also think it would be sort of funny if they did surprise everyone and go for the names on the bottom of the betting lists.

My name Predictions have changed slightly since my last post but not much.. The Child will most likely have at least four names, this is my previous predictions and my new predictions. I am not guessing what order they will be in but that they will be apart of the name.

Original Name Predictions                          New Name Predictions

1. Liam                                                        1. Edward
2. Charles                                                    2. Phillip
3. Phillip                                                      3. George
4. Frances                                                    4. Frances
5. Spencer                                                    5. Spencer
                                                                     6. James

All names have a history or meaning to them, so It would be interesting to see if any of these predictions are correct and to see what order they are in.. in fact I will make a loose full name prediction.. Phillip Edward George Spencer but don't hold me to that!

Are you guys excited and what is your name predictions?!

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!

Sorry! This isn't book related, but you may have seen it on my blog or twitter feed mentioned several times and well it is a HUGE part of my life, not to mention it....

That would by my Mom and I's Backpack company called AttachaPack!
For almost 5 years my Mom and I ( myself mainly for 2 years) have been developing and designing and backpack that is customize-able / personalize-able. After SEVERAL prototypes and logo changes and name changes. We have finally formed our company and we have finally LAUNCHED!

Sort Of.

We will be launching our website attachapack.com in Mid-August, but as of last night we launched out Amazon "Pop-Up" Store. That contains what we called our "ready-made" backpacks. Which are just pre-designed backpacks for you to choose from, instead of designing them yourself. Although, you most definitely still do that.

Here are Examples of WHY AttachaPack is Special and Different.

The backpacks also have safety features... such as GPS tracking and bulletproof shields. But that is all OPTIONAL.

PLEASE Check Out Our Amazon Store and Tell Everyone You Know, About Us!!! Thank You!

Fourth Comings (Jessica Darling #4)

Summary:
"At first it seems that she’s living the elusive New York City dream. She’s subletting an apartment with her best friend, Hope, working for a magazine that actually utilizes her psychology degree, and still deeply in love with Marcus Flutie, the charismatic addict-turned-Buddhist who first captivated her at sixteen.
Of course, reality is more complicated than dreamy clichés. She and Hope share bunk beds in the “Cupcake”—the girlie pastel bedroom normally occupied by twelve-year-old twins. Their Brooklyn neighborhood is better suited to “breeders,” and she and Hope split the rent with their promiscuous high school pal, Manda, and her “genderqueer boifriend.” Freelancing for an obscure journal can’t put a dent in Jessica’s student loans, so she’s eking out a living by babysitting her young niece and lamenting that she, unlike most of her friends, can’t postpone adulthood by going back to school.
Yet it’s the ever-changing relationship with Marcus that leaves her most unsettled. At the ripe age of twenty-three, he’s just starting his freshman year at Princeton University. Is she ready to give up her imperfect yet invigorating post-college life just because her on-again/off-again soul mate asks her to... marry him?
Jessica has one week to respond to Marcus’s perplexing marriage proposal. During this time, she gains surprising wisdom from unexpected sources, including a popular talk show shrink, a drag queen named Royalle G. Biv, and yes, even her parents. But the most shocking confession concerns two people she thought had nothing to hide: Hope and Marcus.
Will this knowledge inspire Jessica to give up a world of late-night literary soirees, art openings, and downtown drunken karaoke to move back to New Jersey and be with the one man who’s gripped her heart for years? Jessica ponders this and other life choices with her signature snark and hyper-intense insight, making it the most tumultuous and memorable week of her twenty-something life."

After reading Fourth Comings.. I have come to the conclusion that I am done with Jessica Darling and do not imagine myself reading another book in the series for awhile. I wanted to love this series, I REALLY did. I enjoyed Sloppy Firsts and LOVED Second Helpings , but Charmed Thirds lost me. Jessica was SO vulgar and crass, it was such a turn off for me and Fourth Comings although in some way better than Charmed Thirds was just boring to me. I also, think this has to do with the fact that Jessica Darling and I are just TOO different of people and I could no longer relate to her the way I used to and I couldn't justify her actions to be like-able for me anymore. So in the end I think it is best to part my ways with the series.

Cinders and Sapphires (At Somerton, #1)

Summary:
"Rose Cliffe has never met a young lady like her new mistress. Clever, rich, and beautiful, Ada Averley treats Rose as an equal. And Rose could use a friend. Especially now that she, at barely sixteen, has risen to the position of ladies’ maid. Rose knows she should be grateful to have a place at a house like Somerton. Still, she can’t help but wonder what her life might have been had she been born a lady, like Ada.
For the first time in a decade, the Averleys have returned to Somerton, their majestic ancestral estate. But terrible scandal has followed Ada’s beloved father all the way from India. Now Ada finds herself torn between her own happiness and her family’s honor. Only she has the power to restore the Averley name—but it would mean giving up her one true love . . . someone she could never persuade her father to accept.
Sumptuous and enticing, the first novel in the At Somerton series introduces two worlds, utterly different yet entangled, where ruthless ambition, forbidden attraction, and unspoken dreams are hidden behind dutiful smiles and glittering jewels. All those secrets are waiting . . . at Somerton."

Plot: Although, a decently fun read; Cinders and Sapphires isn't an all too original plot. Pretty much follows like a Downton Abbey plot line and doesn't have a lot of surprises or twists.

Characters: The main characters to focus on are Rose and Ada. Both are equally like-able and have dilemmas that complements the others, which in return helps the plot go along. Sebastian has an interesting role and I imagine it will only get better from there.

Final Thoughts: I liked Cinders and Sapphires and will eventually read the rest of the series, although it is not a priority. I was hoping was just a little extra GLAMOUR like the title practically promises. Although, the ending is to be scandalous, i just felt so much disconnect from it. Which I guess may be how I felt about the whole book, it was just missing something extra to be GREAT.

Top Ten Tuesday: Movie Adaptions

Hosted By The Broke and The Bookish

Book to Movie Adaptions happen a lot and I am going to be honest with you, I have seen A LOT of book to movie adaptions, without knowing it was a book first, or without ever reading the book after. Leading to me actually not having a lot to compare too. But I will try my best...

1. Any Nicholas Sparks Movie
Face it, they are cheesy but they are good, not always accurate, but accurate enough.

2. The Princess Diaries
The books and movies are not real at all the same and Cabot even pokes fun at them in her later Princess Dairies books. However, I still enjoyed watching Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews as Mia and Grandmere.

3. Baz Lurhmans The Great Gatsby
I feel this may be a controversial pick. Honestly, I HATED the first half of the movie. Although, it was very Baz Lurhman's style it was just TOO over the top and TOO much rap music to justify. However, I found the 2nd half of the movie to be beautiful and emotional. I even cried and for that, I had to add it to the list.

4. The Hunger Games
I think they did a good job at following the plot pretty darn close and adding a little extra that only enhanced the story, instead of hindering it.

5. The Harry Potter Series
Really they did such a great job and making the world we imagined in our minds to life.

6. Anne of Green Gables
I believe this was a TV Movies Series and I cannot really remember the similarities or difference between the two but I do remember I enjoyed both!
